In Islamabad, Prime Minister Imran Khan's Special Assistant on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza, and Pakistan Army spokesman Major General Babar Iftikhar held a joint press conference, where they confirmed that the Government of Pakistan had launched an official website on coronavirus.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Zafar Mirza said the government launched the website to give people the latest, verified information about the coronavirus.
He said that at covid.gov.pk the public can get information about the current coronavirus situation in Pakistan, along with guidance on safety measures and emergencies.
Special Assistant on Information
Firdous Ashiq Awan said the government and all stakeholders are active in dealing with the coronavirus.
"We, as a nation, have to face it. The corona virus has hit the world economy."
She appealed to the public to reduce gatherings and avoid crowds, noting that some elements were trying to create an artificial crisis for illicit profit.
She added that there were no food shortages and food items were available in abundance. The Prime Minister had directed provincial governments to counter artificial crises and profiteering.
Special Assistant on Health
Dr. Zafar Mirza said the entire nation was united. China was in talks to assist Pakistan's health sector, and video conferences with Chinese experts would begin within days.
He noted that patients had been reported in 176 countries, which was concerning. At that time, there were 326 confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan.
"We will only share the numbers of corona virus certified cases, which has now become the official website."
He emphasized that most of the 326 affected people had contracted the virus abroad, with very few cases of local transmission.
He advised people not to visit hospitals unnecessarily, and said that for hospital admissions only one person should accompany a patient during scheduled times.
